Best Bang-for-the-buck alternative to an expensive NAS
As a retired photographer, with decades of photo/video files (including tons of priceless digitally converted home movies of our daughter growing up & family events), my 10-yr old WDMyCloud had become obsolete and was dying. The cost of new NAS was simply not within my retirement budget, and paying for a cloud backup the last two years was money down the drain (This drive cost less than two years of cloud backup, and is a lot more convenient to access files rapidly). Other methods have their pros & cons, but cost being a priority, and after lots of research, I found this little jewel to be the best bang for the buck alternative. It connects to my main desktop computer via the included USB 3.0 cable, and is easily accessible to all the computers/devices on my home network. I use a freeware program called FreeFileSync to back up all my important files (photos, videos, documents) daily. FreeFileSync's "mirror" option duplicates selected folders from my PC to the expansion drive and updates any changes on a daily schedule. I got the 24TB model, perfect for backing up my main desktop computer (which also has 24 TB of storage). It's a compromise from an expensive NAS, as the files it's not available remotely (only from within my home network), but less than 1/4 the price. File transfer speeds are typically around 200 mb/sec. Took some time to initially load all my files, but the daily backup update is done seamlessly in the middle of the night. As for longevity, only time will tell, but I've had many Seagate drives over the years, never a failure, and am quite happy with this purchase!

Reliable and Spacious Storage Solution for Backups
I recently purchased the Seagate Expansion 8TB External Hard Drive (STKP8000400) to back up my growing collection of photos, videos, and documents, and I’m very satisfied with its performance. Setting up the drive was truly plug-and-play—just connect it through USB 3.0 and it’s instantly recognized by my computer without any extra steps. The transfer speeds are excellent, so moving large files takes far less time than with my older drives. The 8TB capacity means I have more than enough space for my current needs and plenty of room to grow. The compact design fits neatly on my desk, and it runs quietly even during long backup sessions. Having Rescue Data Recovery Services included adds extra peace of mind in case something ever goes wrong. Overall, this Seagate external hard drive is a fantastic choice for anyone needing a large, reliable backup drive that’s simple to use and trustworthy.

Very Cost Effective for a Storage Backup
Finally got around to copying all of my data and this device is perfect for my backups. The wire speed could be faster, but that may just be because I'm so accustomed now to ssd's. Pretty good though for a traditional hard drive. Incredibly easy to install, simply plug it in and start transferring. There is also registration instructions built in to get you set up. Designed with lots of breathability so I didn't need to worry about overheating. Very happy with this purchase!

Good, solid drive; good price-per-TB; initially formatted in exFAT
Good unit, so far; I bought two 24 TB units (after formatting you get about 21.8 TB of data storage space), replacing three smaller, much-older drives that died during a recent storm. I bought this size because the per-terabyte cost was the lowest I've seen in years; and I bought TWO (2) drives because one is for the data I want to keep, and the other is for backing up all that data I want to keep, because...21.8 TB of data is a lot to lose if one of those drives gets taken out by another storm. All things eventually die.BUT! WARNING!It comes formatted as exFAT, and that's not really identified anywhere that I saw. I only noticed by accident when I went into Drive Manager for an issue with another drive and to re-letter some of the existing drives. So, for all you Windows users out there, you're probably going to want to reformat to NTFS BEFORE you start storing a bunch of data on it. Otherwise, you're likely going to hate yourself later, when you have to RE-copy massive amounts of data off of the drive onto a different drive (or drives), formatting it to NTFS, and re-copying the data back onto the original drive. (Still in the process of doing that.)The drive was physically smaller than all of the previous units I've bought, even though those older drives held MUCH less data.Installation was a snap--just plug 'em in, and they work--and the power and USB cables were generously long enough to reach my drive storage stand. The data and the backup units both seem fine, after over three days of copying data onto them (with some breaks in between large data transfers, to allow both the sending and receiving drives to "cool down") and random testing ensured good copies were received by both drives without issue. All in all, very happy with my purchase(s), and I'll definitely be buying more of them, eventually, as I fill these up.

Backup
