Messy fun!
My son really enjoyed this as a birthday gift! It makes a bit of a mess, so I’d suggest doing it outside or in some sort of a tub. A little tricky to put together, as if you don’t push hard enough the skeletons will break. But my son thought it was fun, kept him entertained for hours and he liked learning more about fossils!

So fun for kids, one of the best kits I've seen!
My kids have had several variations of these fossil kits and this is by far the best quality one I've seen. Bought this for my 5 year old daughter and she loved both the excavation and now the dinosaur toy she "discovered".Pros:- Comes with 2 blocks for twice the fun.-Includes safety goggles which can adjust to a small head as well as a wooden mallet and chisel.-Dinosaur 'bones' are plastic but thick enough to not get damaged in the excavation process and hearty enough to be snapped together and played with afterwards. T-Rex is probably 10-12" long after being assembled.-Chalk is tough enough to make it a challenge, took my 5 year old old approx. 2 hours to get everything dug out and she was into it the entire time.Cons:-The pieces snapped together well and held up but a few of the joints pop out once in a while, this is very minor and happens with any of these type of kits, a little super glue fixes the problem.-Can be messy, you're letting a child smash chalk with a hammer and chisel so of course it's going to make somewhat of a mess. I put down a drop cloth and let them go at it, once finished I fold it up and shake outside. From my understanding it's just chalk so easy to clean up. Note: the directions do recommend wetting it beforehand but that sounded like even more of mess so we just did it dry and then dip the bones in water. Chunks do fly off hence the safety goggles but didn't find it to be too dusty or anything.

Great Activity to Complete Dinosaur Uniy
Students were engaged and excited as they chipped away at the plaster slab to find their dinosaur. We could not get the skeletons to fit/stay together.

Perfect gift at a great price!
Bought this as a gift for my fiance. We were talking about the little ones and he mentioned that he had big sets as a kid and how much he loved them so I decided to find one to surprise him. He had hours of fun excavating each piece, and when it was all out, it was super easy to assemble. He now has it proudly displayed with the rest of his collectables. It was a great value for the money, not just the final product but how much fun and joy it brought.

Worth the money!!
I forgot to take a picture but its bigger and fancier than it looks in the picture. Honestly it looks like you would have spent $50 at least. I gave it to my 9 year old brother and I he absolutely loved it. I enjoyed doing it with him. We did it without water to last longer but if you want to go quicker you can put water on it. Still probably a couple hours per block

fun science for dinosaur lovers
My 5 year old great nephew loves dinosaurs and science. There are 2 pieces in this kit to excavate. As others have mentioned it is best to do this outside as alot of dust was created as he excavated the first piece. Once we had the bones out, they had to be cleaned using the brush inside the kit to remove all material from the holes. The pieces go together but to get them tight I helped by using a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it together so the other pieces fit. He did everything else himself and really enjoyed this kit.

Fun digging it up but horrible trying to assemble it
Velociraptor: My 6 year old Granddaughter loved digging up the bones, washing and identifying them. But putting them together was another story. There are no instructions on how to assemble it but she figured out how it went together. I had to use pliers to get the pegs into the holes. When we got to the head it took 3 hands to fit it together and then the pegs wouldn't go into the holes. Again I tried using pliers and finally got it together only to have it fall apart when I gave it to her. We tried and tried and she finally just lost all interest in playing with it because the head kept falling apart. So here it sits. If she gets interested again, I'll try glueing it. But you'd think that the pieces would just fit and stay, right? There was also an extra leg in the clay which was humorous. We haven't done the T-Rex yet so hopefully that will be more successful!

Loved this excavation kit!
We purchased several different kits and in comparison the kids and I loved using this kit. To keep the mess to a minimum we used an aluminum roaster pan with our fossil and dinosaur kits. This kit had the least amount of dust. We could have probably used newspaper for this one! The safety classes was made of a higher quality and fit my older kids nicely! We were worried that the skeletons wouldn't stay together but our fears were misplaced-the replicas were well made! Highly recommend this kit!
