Great for Azul fans!

Fun twist on the original Azul! Set-up was quick and easy. Learning curve was minimal since we already knew how to play the original Azul. Was different enough from the original Azul that it felt like we were playing a new game. Enjoyed the introduction of the wild tile, carrying over up to 4 tiles each round, having the ability to gain extra tiles for completing different structures on your own player board, and the built in "timer" of only having 6 rounds (this kept the game moving along but without making it feel rushed). Game play was around 30 minutes. Lots of additional points that you can score at the end of the game with completing different goals.Wish that the player boards would have had their own score track like in the original Azul. The communal score board felt cramped when we played with 4 players

better than the original!

we love it! we used to love the original azul, but we haven't played it since buying this version. and we play this version all the time! more long-term strategy involved. totally recommend!

Creative variation on the original Azul

I'm a big fan of the original Azul game and while the second iteration (Azul Stained Glass of Sintra) isn't bad, it never clicked with me as well as the original did. The Azul Summer Pavilon though is one that I like even more than the first two.It starts with the original game mechanics of placing four tiles onto a number of locations and allowing people to choose a single-color group of tiles from a location to add to their "supply". It then adds in the ability to gain a single "wild" tile, which can be used during the placement of tiles on your board. In this version of Azul, the negative points earned by the player gaining the first player token are based on how many tiles are gained at the time the first player token is gathered in. Once all of the tiles in the central area have been distributed, the game enters a tile placement phase.During the tile placement phase, players will score points for placing tiles on their mats based on how many neighboring tiles are there. They also have completion bonuses when specific tile placements occur, allowing players to gain one or more additional tiles from a bonus pool that are put back into their supply. Players take turns during this phase, which ends when all players run out of tiles, or pass, holding on to up to four tiles for the next round. This process repeats for six rounds, with the color of the "wild" tile changing each round. The final scoring, similarly to the original game, awards bonus points for various patterns that were filled out and after all of those bonuses are awarded, the player with the most points wins.Because there is more to think about, however, this version of Azul will likely take a bit longer to play than the first two. This was worth it to me though, so if you liked the first or second Azul and want to try a "need to put more thought into it" version, this is the one to get.

A Must Have Game

If you have played the original Azul. You will love this one. I got it on sale and it was much cheaper than in stores. The quality of all pieces was fantastic. Super fun to play and easy to understand when you use strategy.

Fun game that plays quite differently than the original

Azul Summer Pavilion is quite a bit more challenging than the original game. I like the drafting and placement being two separate phases. With the array of stars to build, there's a lot more flexibility - and thinking required - in the gameplay. It's fun.

Great strategy game!

We have and play the original Azul, which we enjoy, but the Summer Pavilion version of the game involves more strategy and is more fun. The addition of a wild card color each round adds to the strategy. Helps to have someone who knows how to play teach others, but easy to get the hang of it.

Double Your Fun with 12 Rounds of Summer Pavilion

You can double your fun playing 12 rounds in stead of stopping at 6 rounds, to complete more stars, if you are playing with one other person! Also double your tiles that you are allowed to carry to the next round from 4 to 8 in rounds 7 through 12. And double pillars, statues, and window bonuses in rounds 7 through 12. Finish perhaps 4, 5 or more stars! This will double the time played, but it is so much more satisfying!
