Wish these were cheaper as I will have to take them for life, but LIFE CHANGING! If you have the MTHFR gene mutation, I can't recommend this vitamin enough. My 85 year old father started taking these too, and has so much more energy! I've been taking about 6 months now. Personally I suffered from Migraines and mental fog and memory loss, not to mention excessive fatigue needing daily naps. My headaches went away within hours of my first dose, my energy increased and I no longer need daily naps, but most important was the brain fog. I was to the point of not being able to solve problems (and I tutor high school math so that is a big problem). Now I teach and tutor without any cognitive problems. I still don't think my memory is what it used to be but not as bad, and everything else is Sooooo much better. If you find out you have the MTHFR gene mutation, this is the vitamin for you. Regular B vitamins wont do it. My mother's Dr. told her to take large amounts of B12 and Folic Acid (for the same mutation) but this is wrong. You don't need more vitamins, you need the RIGHT vitamins. They need to be in the already Methylated form so your body can use them. I'm homozygous for c677t which means I noticed a drastic difference. If you are only heterozygous, you probably won't notice the drastic difference that my father and I did, but I would still recommend as I think it would make a big impact on your overall health.

I see some negative reviews, some of them stating the dosage is just too high. My doctor recommended taking this for my high homocysteine levels, but said to only take one capsule per day, not three. He basically agrees that the manufacturer's recommended dosage of three per day is too high. But I initially started taking two per day anyway, to get more TMG. But then I switched to one per day like my doctor suggested, plus an additional separate 1000 mg TMG.Even one per day might be a high dose if you don't specifically have a requirement. But since I do, one per day has been working well for me. My recent blood homocysteine blood level was improved.If even one per day is too high of a dose for you, you might consider the regular Thorne Methyl-Guard instead of the Plus. Basically, the Thorne products are really good but adjust dose per your personal needs. And like me, you could also add a TMG-only supplement if you want more of that specifically.Other people complain about pill size. I personally don't have a problem with larger pills as long as I swallow them with food. That works for me.Another complaint is the price. It's not cheap. But since I only take one per day, a bottle lasts me 90 days not 30. So that helps with the cost.

THORNE Methyl-Guard Plus was recommended by two doctors for my methylation issues. I specifically search for methylated B vitamins and avoid synthetics. Unfortunately, I have malabsorption issues so I am not sure how well this product worked. My vitamin B levels have increased dramatically so I had to stop taking. I also feel this product is a bit spendy for a one month supply. I would only take 1 capsule a day to try and stretch it out. I do find Thorne products to be of best quality.

This is one of the better brands with regards to bioavailability and supporting MHTFR. I definitely notice a difference in energy. Clean energy, not jittery. The only complaint is that it is not a complete B complex. I don’t understand why they didn’t add all the B vitamins to this formula. I’ve read a lot of articles that say it’s important to balance out our B vitamin intake. In other words, if you are taking one B vitamin, you should take them all. That they play on each other, that one needs the other to function properly. This formula is missing Thiamine, and Niacin. Two B vitamins that a lot of important benefits. I’m curious as to why Thorne omitted these two vitamins. I took these for a year thinking they were complete. I started to feel sluggish again and that’s when I researched and found a lot info on balancing out B vitamins. I’ve since added Thiamine (AllThiamine version) and Niacin, and feel better, a little more energy than I had before. Again great brand, love the high dose, and added TMG, just wish it was more complete B complex.

I was recommended by a functional medicine doctor to take this particular Thorne supplement because my B-12 level had been very difficult. It got my B-12 level back in the normal range but what I was really impressed with is how it made me feel. It is the methylated version of B vitamins so it is very bioavailable and doesn’t have to be methylated by the body. That is why he recommended the product. It doesn’t cause any stomach discomfort and you will know it is in your system because it makes your urine neon yellow. I take it regularly and would highly recommend it if you are feeling low on energy or would like a powerhouse of a B vitamin supplement!
