Q: what thickness and composition of the steel?

I believe it is made of 3/16 inch steel. I would like one with thicker metal but not ready to spend $1000 or have a 600 pound smoker. I smoked on mine three or four times now, both brisket and boston butt and it does an awesome job.

Q: Is the firebox big enough to cook with wood only? No charcoal?

Absolutely. I start off with one chimney of charcoal as a bed and then add wood logs about 2 to 4 inch diameter. After that, I only cook with wood.

Q: i just purchased the OK Joe's longhorn reverse flow smoker Which port should the smoke stack go on since this is reverse flow?

Congrats on your new smoker! We recommend attaching the smoke stack to the port closest to the offset firebox.

Q: what is the length and width of the main cooking area on top of the grid?

Not sure of the width and length. But you could get at least three good size briskets on there. Thanks to the plates kept the temp at around 250 from one side to the other I got the 1060 size
