Excellent Learning and Fun
I got this for our 5 year old at Christmas - thinking that we could build these projects together, and conscious that my love of Lego and eagerness for him to love it too might be making me push him too hard.We built a couple of the projects and he loved them. One excellent thing about this book is that it helps show that Lego engineering principles can be applied to the wider world. At the weekend, after it got put away and forgotten about for a few weeks, he got it out himself, and built the entire gear train of the whisk project entirely independently. The instructions aren't an exact match for the standard Lego instructions - but they're extremely close, and just as clear. (Hopefully evidenced by the fact a 5 year old was able to follow them without problems)There aren't many Lego pieces included - but this is a massive plus for me. It shows how ingenuity is the main essential ingredient - and imagination is by far and away the main limiting factor. My only minor gripe would be a request that the storage compartment for the Lego bits be toughened up, and made more secure - I used some sellotape to reinforce the cardboard and created some lips so pieces can't fall out and get lost.

Brilliant educational Lego based book
This book is a great buy. My 5year old loved making the models and although the science bits are aimed at older kids, he was still interested and it made a great introduction to them.I liked how at the start of each section the book explains the science behind the model then after you had built it described real world applications of the device. A bit of all sorts covered, optical illusions, physics, history etc. There is a lot of encouragement and ideas to develop the models shown further. A nice selection of old school Lego technic, gears that properly fit together and beams you can build up from provided. The cardboard bits are a bit flimsy and once removed from the book are easily lost and damaged when it comes to remaking the models.Worth mentioning adding paper and card pieces to Lego contraptions is a great idea and one we hadn’t thought of before. Making your own and colouring in your own cardboard parts is a great idea and adds to the play value of this kit.Definitely recommended and good value for both the Lego and the educational value.

Good but sticky!
The old one was spiral on the side. The new one it is not. Also it is taped to the box so you get glue from the tape on the side of the book. The ideas and explanations are up to legos standards
