Unleashing the Beast: KastKing ReKon's Superior Saltwater Performance
I recently got my hands on the KastKing ReKon Saltwater Spinning Reel, and it's nothing short of a powerhouse. The reel promises a thrilling fishing experience with its robust build and precision engineering, explicitly designed to meet the challenges of saltwater fishing.First, this reel's tactile quality is remarkable. The frame, crafted from a high-tech Nylitech material, offers unmatched stiffness and durability, ensuring this reel is not just a one-season wonder, but a long-term investment. It feels like a tank, yet it operates with the finesse of a sports car, thanks to its finely tuned drag system that can handle up to 55 pounds of resistance. The smoothness of the retrieve is a standout feature. Each handle turn engages a satisfyingly crisp click, and the aluminum handle provides a secure grip that makes casting a breeze. The water-resistant sealing is particularly impressive, which adds a layer of reliability when facing the corrosive nature of saltwater environments. While the reel maintains a fixed anti-reverse system, this design choice simplifies the mechanics. It boosts the reel's reliability under strain—a critical factor when aiming to reel in the big one. The lack of a reverse switch is a minor trade-off for the overall performance and reliability.Pros:It is an exceptionally smooth and strong drag system perfect for big-game fishing.Rugged construction with a Nylitech frame ensures long-lasting use.Ergonomic aluminum handle that enhances comfort and control. The sealed design offers excellent protection against the elements.Cons:Fixed anti-reverse may not suit all fishing styles.

Smooth and reliable
This spinning reel feels solid and operates smoothly. The drag system is consistent, and the reeling action is quiet and fluid. Great for both beginners and casual anglers. It’s held up well on multiple trips—definitely worth it for the price.

Solid reel and great value
I received this reel a few days ago and spooled it up with 10 lb braid and 20 lb flurocarbon leader (a lot of sharp oyster beds and toothy fish). I took it to a local pond to test it out and it cast my 3/8 oz paddle tail a mile with very smooth retrieves. Construction seems and feels very solid and balanced when paired with my 7 ft medium fast action rod. Can't wait to take it on my pedal kayak and hopefully catch some inshore fish here in South Carolina - redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheepshead, etc. I have other KastKing rods and reels which I have used in freshwater and they have performed very well. We'll see how this reel holds up to the inshore saltwater kayak fishing I do in the Low Country...I think it will do its part as long as I maintain it as recommended.

Salt water tested
Worked like a champ in heavy salt water use even after getting pulled off a sand spike into the surf. Bearings held up well and reel worked amazing on a 40lb nurse shark paired with a 10' Big Water Ugly stick. The generic paired reel with the other ugly stick I bought failed miserably in the salt water environment. Definitely worth the money and it was a reasonable price.

Impressive
I bought this reel for inshore use and so far I have been impressed. I spooled it with 20lb braid and put it on a 7ft M St. Croix. It balances and feels great on the rod. The reel is light but I have not felt any flexing while fighting fish. I have caught redfish, snook and drum on it, no giants but big enough to work out the drag. The drag works incredibly well and is very smooth. There is more drag available than you could possibly need. The reel is very smooth and that goes to show you don’t need a 1000 bearings to have a smooth retrieve. I don’t have any criticisms. The only thing I cannot comment on is durability but based on other kastking reels I’m not worried about it.

Ok but have had better
Get what you pay for. Ok reel but after a month of use started feeling a slight thump inside the reel while reeling in. Probably won’t purchase again.
