Modern, easy recipes
I started off feeling a bit disappointed by this book: more of the same, I felt. But in fact it has turned into the Madhur Jaffrey book I most turn to now, as the recipes have been simplified in technique, making them quicker, but there's no compromise in flavour. Recommended.

Tasty curries
I didn't DO Indian cookery, too many spices, too complicated I thought. But I realised that I didn't even know how to make a simple vegetable curry. Then I bought this book, Madhur Jaffrey explains all about the spices and pulses you will need, and where to get them. There is no extra equipment needed, but a spice grinder or coffee grinder would come in handy. I have cooked some really tasty meals so far, it beats using a jar of curry sauce or curry powder any day. It is a lovely book with a nice range of recipes.

Appealing recipes but light on technique
Really nice pictures, good for a coffee table I suppose. Not quite as useful as hoped for the kitchen.
