WiiM Pro AirPlay 2 Receiver, Google Cast Audio, WiFi Multiroom Streamer, Compatible with Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant, Stream Hi-Res Audio from Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal and More

I have a 'previously loved', (2nd hand) Naim Hi Fi system comprising, Nac 102, Snaps Psu, Olive Hicap, Nap 150x, Arcam Irdac and Focal Aria 906 speakers on stands. I was very pleased with the sound from Amazon Music Unlimited, streamed via 2 mini pcs, one attached to the tv the other remotely connected to the hifi via a usb connection to my 60" tv. ( The first one so I could see what I was doing, the second one actually doing the streaming) Reviews of the Wiim Pro Plus and its AKG DAC, with positive reviews across the board got me thinking. A recent 15% price reduction coinciding with Amazon vouchers from family for my birthday encouraged me to buy.Initially, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the sound, it did not appear to live up to the reviews . After a few days use it sounded better. I know, electronics don't wear in, don't improve, don't 'come into their own' but it did. I'm 72, have occasional ear problems, causing balance problems, partial dullness of hearing, frequency loss and so on. However, on a good day, I liked what I hear. I could not honestly say it was an improvement but it was, at least just as good. After some weeks, annoyed by the phone or Ipad interface (my eyesight is not so good), I reverted to the Arcam Dac, dual pc interface. Much more intuitive, easier to negotiate through music choices and I could see what I was doing. (60" screen) after several weeks, out of curiosity, I reverted to the Wiim, using a 10" Ipad and reading glasses. From the start, I had used the room tuning function. I sit off to the left of my hifi in an oblong room. I have a Nat 102 which some have critcised as losing focus and emphasising sound from one speaker. I had this 'problem' but just lived with it. Except, the Wiim did not do this. Sound was and remains centred. I Also noticed, after reverting, that it appeared to have more depth, breadth and height. (3d ?) It's not a 'night and day' difference. However, it does make more sense of the music I listen to. It sounds more natural and rounded.My elderly ears are convinced.I just hope that Wiim can bring the ease, depth and outright simplicity of Amazon Music's Windows interface to their Windows app so I can fully navigate my choices without eyestrain.For anyone looking for a DAC or streaming solution. I heartily recommend the Wiim Pro Plus.

I originally bought the Pro version before the Pro Plus was released - the Pro Plus is a definite upgrade from the Pro and well worth the extra money in my opinion despite the similarities.Pro's:1. Really easy to setup via the WiiM app that is provided - was up and running within 2 minutes of plugging it in.2. Functionality is amazing - I have used Sonos and others in the past and this for me is the most versatile device with the best user software. The included remote also has excellent voice connectivity if you don't have another smart device running into it.3. Versatility is also great - I have connected Amazon bluetooth devices that play by default through this device and it works perfectly effectively as the 'main speaker' for an echo dot. Yet I can still use the remote to get the WiiM to directly play anything from my connected services such as Amazon Music and Spotify. It just works.4. Clarity and quality of audio - this is where the Pro Plus earns its money as it's immediately obvious that the DAC is superior to the Pro version. I run this into high quality vintage hifi via quality coax cables and it sounds as clear and impressive as my high quality CD source. In some cases with high quality audio files it's actually superior.5. Size is great, it sits on the bottom shelf of my hifi rack, innocuously going about its business!Cons:1. The price is much higher than the Pro version and their connectivity and usability is the same - so go for this if you have higher quality audio kit that needs a good source2. For the price I would love to have seen a front display of some form, beyond the single LED that sits there, just to show source/levels etc. However I'd rather the money was spent of the excellent DAC that sits within the device I guess.Overall, I love this device and feel no need to look elsewhere at far more expensive alternatives with a few more flashy features. It does what it does exceptionally well and I hope it continues to do so (and be fully supported) for years to come.
