Mixed feelings about this
I have mixed feelings about this notebook. Essentially, what you are purchasing is a more reasonably priced version of the popular Midori Travelers notebook. It's about half Midori's list price and the leather cover (which is the main reason why you buy this) seems to be full-grain as advertised and a similar level of quality with the Midori one. It has three points that resolve frequent complaints about the Midori:1. The logo is a nice looking compass on the front instead of printed information including "made in Thailand" on the back.2. The elastic band that goes around the notebook starts from a hole in the spine of the notebook and not in the middle of the back cover like the Midori. Many people complain that the knot that secures the Midori makes a lump that interferes with writing. Having it in the back solves that problem.3. This notebook comes with a piece of leather on that elastic band that should protect the edges of the notebooks somewhat from being damaged by the band's pressure. But there are also some things I don't like, and that is where the mixed feelings come in:1. Although it came with three insert notebooks instead of Midori's one, the paper quality seems quite low, rather rough and showing a fair amount of bleed through and feathering from my fountain pens. The quality looks below the paper in a moleskin notebook--closer to recycled paper. Since I'll have to replace them with higher quality Midori or Goulet inserts, I feel like I received zero notebooks compared to the one that comes with the Midori Travelers.2. The notebooks are blank. I realize this is a personal choice, but I prefer lined, graph or dot notebooks to blank ones. I guess this point is moot because I'm not going to use them anyway due to the low-quality paper.3. I don't like the fact that the elastic bands holding the notebooks to each other are not continuous loops, but instead are knotted at the bottom with the loose ends covered by dangling metal cylinders. I'm going to have to use ugly rubber bands or replace them with Midori bands.4. Unlike the Midori, the band that goes through the spine and holds the middle insert in place doesn't have an attached bookmark. I'll probably have to buy a Midori one to get that.5. Since buying the notebook a few days ago, I've already received two emails from the Black Mountain, the "sole" US distributor. The first somewhat informative one would have been OK. The second one begging for a review was annoying. Will there be a third? A fourth? A fifth? When does it end?6. Generally it looks more untidy than I expected. I realize a certain rough-and-ready look is part of the appeal of this approach, but it looks cheap rather than charming. It may be due to having three inserts installed, looking a bit ragged, or just seeing the edges of the cheap notebook inserts. So this is a toss-up. On one hand it resolves some of the most complained-about issues of the Midori. On the other hand, while the leather cover--the main thing you are buying--seems similar in quality to the Midori, the other items, like the bands and paper seem cheap and I'll probably replace them with Midori items, negating much of the price difference between the two (assuming buying the Midori at the street price, not the unrealistic MRSP). Spending a few extra dollars on a notebook that is supposed to last for years doesn't seem that bad if you get what you expect the first time.

Great product! Perfect size too!
This notebook is awesome! For the price it is well worth it. It came with 3 blank notebooks in it ready to go. The packaging was phenomenal and it smells awesome (like leather). You can tell it will patina nicely and look even better over time. The elastic bands seen pretty durable and hold the notebooks in nicely as well as keeping the whole thing closed. This will definitely be my go to notebook for years to come just slide it in a pocket and go!
