Works AMAZINGLY well!!

Simple system to use. The how to video is great for beginners getting the angle right. Sharpened an old and very dull blade to the sharpest is ever been.Only downside I could mention is that the coated metal plates you sharpen against have lost their original grit feel. To be fair, I've sharpened about 15-20 blades and most were 20+ inches.Overall a great product for experienced or beginner sharpeners.

great value for the money

For the price you cant beat two diamond plates. using them as the directions say is not easy. i would just use them flat. They arent 100% flat or perfect but they are still good. this wont get your knives razor sharp but they will cut paper.

Better Approach IMHO

This model has several competitors that use rods in similar type of holders. I own these as well. I like the plate model, which gives better use of the diamonds or lesser abrasives. Rods last a long time and are good, but this is my preferred approach. I was surprised it took so long for someone to design one like this. Of course, flat stones on a bench are the same thing, but a guide or muscle memory and skill is required to keep a good angle. Most of us find the vertical approach easier to control the angle.

Handy

This sharpening kit works like a charm— I’ve had diamond sharpeners before but this kit contains a block made of wood with angled slots in it to hold the sharpening pads— which gives you a free hand— I love it

Very poor quality.

I had never used this brand of diamond sharping block before, I had always used the DMT (Diamond Machining Technology company), brand starting in 1982. The DMT brand always came perfectly flat and ready for use. When I opened this box I saw that is was very well protected and packaged. I pulled the papers out and reviewed them then I pulled the first diamond sharpener block out, it happened to be the 1,200 grit diamond surface block. It is wrapped and sealed in a plastic bag and as I pulled it out my fingers felt a bump in the diamond surface. I didn’t open the bag but just felt up and down the diamond surface and felt two bumps causing high spots in the surface which would transfer the exact defect into any blade or object that you worked up and down the diamond. I then pulled the 2nd sealed diamond out of the packaging and it was exactly the same, in the exact same places on the diamond surface. The 2nd one was the 400 grit diamond. The imperfections in the surface of each block are in the exact location, 2 inches in from each end of the 7 inch long diamond surface of the block and in the center of the 2.50 inch wide diamond surface of the block. This appears to be a consistent defect in each block because they are different grits, 1,200 grit, and 400 grit, and each defect on the blocks are different in width and height of defect. On one end the defect is smaller in diameter but more pronounced in incline. The defect in the other end of each block is considerably wider giving it a more rounded, gradual, incline than the other end. Both blocks have identical defect styles and locations. I wrote the company, Sharp Pebble, the day I opened the box and asked for them to advise me about if I just returned these and requested an exact replacement would I be assured that I would get a good quality diamond set or would they likely be the same as what I have received from them that is bad? I have received no response so I am going to just reject these and order the DMT brand which I didn’t even think about that being a quality issue. I looked and Amazon does carry the DMT brand of what I want. My wife and I have several sets of the DMT brand diamond sharpeners, hers for the kitchen knives and in her craft and sewing room for scissors and needles.

Wears Down Quickly

This is a really nice sharpening stone set for the price. My biggest gripe is that each plate has a protrusion that pushes into the underside of the diamond plate, so the surface is NOT flat from side to side and end to end. The dimple or nipple or whatever you would call it exists about 1/3 into the length (same location for both plates). It's in the way no matter which end you slide into the wooden base, so it shortens the length of plate that's available to use for sharpening. Seems like a quality control issue, or design flaw. The other issue is that the diamond plate surface wears down quickly. I've been using the sharpening set for about a few months now, and it does a wonderful job of sharpening my kitchen knives, but you can definitely see that the original grit is gone. Still sharpens, but I'm not sure if it's as effective as when new. Also, I strop my knives after sharpening, which helps immensely.Considering I've been using my other sharpener for the last 10+ years, I am disappointed that this one seems to be wearing down so quickly. I'll try to edit this review at a later date and let you know how long it lasted. I tend to sharpen one or two knives once every few weeks.

Angle markings on base are reversed.

This is a great concept. Once I solved the angle issue, I successfully sharpened about 20 knives over a two month period. Then the 'stones' warped, thus making it impossible to maintain a consistent angle. However, because I like the base, I will keep the product an replace the diamond 'stones' with ones that will stay flat. Instructions for knives: using the 400 grit stone in the 15 degree slot, set the major edge on each side of your blade. Then using the 1200 grit stone in the 17 degree slot, set the cutting edge on the leading edge of the 15 degree edge.

Stones are warped on arival

Very nice kit for the money. Completely useless as both stones were warped and twisted fresh out of the box. Sent this back
