Q: from reading the reviews, many people still report water spotting from hard water. I don't read anywhere that this softens water

These do not filter as well as expected. Have used throughout the summer here in Phoenix, AZ (since June 10th, 2020) for my misting system. Use 1-2 times a week (mostly just once a week). Water is still "hard" and leaves white spots/drips on furniture/tables/chairs/etc. I will try another inline filter next year.
