Rectorseal 83626 EZT-626 3/4" Combo Kit Condensate Trap & Overflow Switch EZT-113B & EZT-226After 2 years in a new house, the condensate P-trap on our central air conditioner clogged with lint, resulting in the water spilling out of the A-coil pan. Luckily, I caught it early and there was little damage. This device is designed to prevent water damage by shutting the A/C system off if the condensate line clogs. Better yet, you should be able to see a clog in the P trap and clean it out using the supplied brush.It's installed using PVC cleaner and cement and typical shop tools. The materials are schedule-40 thick, and are well made. You might want to test the switch with an ohm-meter before installing, to verify that it works properly. The switch is normally closed; i.e., if the float rises, it's supposed to open the connection.For a Carrier system, cut the red wire coming from the 24 volt transformer and connect each cut end to one of the Rectorseal switch's two wires using small wire-nuts. From then on, if the float rises, it will disconnect that 24 volts, effectively turning A/C system off. E.g., the thermostat will go blank (with no power) -- it will be obvious what's wrong.After installing, make sure the float moves freely (e.g., that no PVC cement oozed under it); pull up on the float pin and the thermostat should disconnect. The ultimate test would be to plug the drain line and pour water into the clean-out to make sure the float will rise and disconnect the system in a clog situation.The Rectorseal switch can be installed on the A/C coil overflow pipe outlet, in the higher of the two clean-outs, or on a separate section of PVC as long as it's level or near the same level as that clean-out.My HVAC contractor recommended this device and wanted $180 to install one. I did it myself for about 1/5 that amount.

This is a great device and is required by my homeowner's association. The space I had to install it is quite tight as the HVAC is in a small closet so I decided to have my HVAC guys install it. It cost me a bit more for the installation but the assurance of it being done right was/is important to me since it's a vacation property. Definitely worth it.

Better construction than the standalone valve. Why not have a trap and clean out and brush too?Plus, the better wiring apparatus on the shutoff is a nice touch.In retrospect it seems counterintuitive to want one without the other anyhow, as they’re like peas and carrots. Save yourself doing it twice / two trips into a scorching attic (at least mine is this time of year) and get it all in one shot.Just make sure you check your existing install to make sure you have enough trap clearance as well as to see if you’ll need some couplers / piping to get the trap installed. Take my word for it: get everything you need FIRST and then some, then knock it out in one shot. Here’s a rough checklist to help you out:Wire Nuts (Orange for smaller wire sizes)PVC CouplersMaybe a foot or two of spare 3/4” (usually) PVC just in casePVC glueTeflon tapeAdequate pliersDrill and bit that will pull the AC machine screws off.Maybe some foil tape to seal things up afterwardsAnything I missed feel free to bring to my attention in the comments.

Great product. Allows you to see if there is any clog in the trap and if there is, you can easily access it with included brush... I installed the safety switch on the secondary drain which will engage if the primary drain gets clogged and causes the water level in the drain pan to get to high. This was an easy install on a new system I installed in my house. This is a quality product made in USA.

great experience installing this on new whole house dehumidifier. Very flexible as to ways it can be installed. Comes with the 3/4" equipment adapter, cleanout brush and overflow safety float switch, which you wire into the low voltage to shutoff the system if the condensate line ever backs up, saving potentially huge cleanup bill. The trap is clear so you can see when it needs to be cleaned. Using the access ports, the brush will clean the trap as well as the line coming from the condensate drain. Well engineered, substantial construction and worked great.

I came about this product because my home's central air unit started leaking water; being that it is installed in the attic, potentially costly damage. I found out that the p-trap was clogged, but the installer glued everything together and I couldn't get a flexible brush to make the bend and clear the trap of debris. This clear trap with all of its access doors was the perfect solution. Installation in minutes, not hours, and central air unit running fine and dry again!

Turns out I've had condensation drain problems over the years, with the flooding issues that follow, but just recently found and installed this. The float switch will be a great benefit in the future, simply cutting the low voltage power to the thermostat if it's activated, and this particular one has a little shaft coming out the top that you can manually pull and push to verify the float itself. Another float switch I got did not have that feature. Then the red-capped openings is a great feature, and the clear plastic trap is so much better than homemade L traps, letting me check on things from time to time. Overall very pleased.

Sadly, very cloudy appearance out of the box.Was I expecting clarity of glass, no, absolutely not, just wasn't expecting to need a flashlight to see if the A/C drain is functioning through the gray cloudiness.
