A good diamond stone for all around use

This plate is a very good sharpening tool for general use around the wood shop and the kitchen. I am not a beginner, nor am I a professional woodworker. I would recommend this to almost anyone - with a couple caveats. One must have a bit of patience to break the stone in to get the max performance. The requires following the directions very closely. Take your time and let the diamonds do the work, do not try to force the plate to take off metal faster by pressing too hard. Beginners may have a problem here, but anyone can correctly use this diamond plate. I am very pleased with the performance over my old Diasharp plates I've had for too many years. I sharpened several Henckel kitchen knives, 3 pocket knives, two plane irons, and couple chisels just to get the thing to a point where I felt like it was fairly broken in. Now, it cuts beautifully without any additional pressure at all. I can feel the diamonds biting into the steel. Great sharpener! I use this 1200 grit plate to maintain my bevels and prepare blades for the strop. I get an extremely sharp edge as a result. If this plate hold up I plan to add a 600 grit version for blade/bevel shaping down the road.

Great stones, better seller

When I received the stones, I was a little disappointed to find that I had received a 600 grit instead of the 1200 grit that I ordered to go with the 300/600 grit set that I ordered at the same time. More on that in a moment.Anxious I was to try these stones out, I immediately whipped out a dull kitchen knife, and within 10 minutes, with just the 300 and 600 grit stones, I had it sharp enough to cut a tomato without bruising it. Mind you, this knife had about as much of an edge as a penny. Ok, it wasn't quite that bad, but you get my point. These things are great and I would recommend them without reservation. Now, at about 10 after 6pm, I hopped on Amazon and sent the seller a question about returning the extra 600 grit and getting a 1200 grit shipped out. Within 10 minutes, the seller answered, told me to keep the extra 600 grit, and promised to ship me out the proper stone first thing in the morning.Amazingly, I literally have nothing to complain about, at *all*. And this is the internet!Seriously, you can't go wrong with these stones and this seller. Just go for it.

It’s great

I’ve been sharpening knives most of my life and for about the last 8 years I’ve used diamond plates. This plate is perfect. The grit is true after the break in period and there is no grit contamination what so ever. I will definitely purchase another when this one finally wears out.

good diamond stone.

Good quality. Follow instructions to break in stone properly. Using for flattening my whetstones. Bought course which is 300 grit.

BEST—by far—sharpening stones that I’ve ever used.

The “UltraSharp”-brand diamond-encrusted sharpening “stones” are the BEST—by far—sharpening stones that I’ve ever used.“UltraSharp” makes sharpening my Japanese kitchen knives easy, fast, safe, precise, fun, and—SHARP SHARP SHARP.I'll never love stone sharpening-stones again.

Great diamond plate at a great price

Great diamond plate for a very reasonable price. Better then the current DMTs. I always check my new plates against a precision straight edge and this one is dead flat. The box and presentation is top notch. It says to me that they care about their product. I’ve abused it lapping a ultra hard surgical black ark, various other stones and used it a lot for sharpening and it hasn’t shed any diamonds. I hone razors commercially so it sees a lot of use and doesn’t show any signs of wearing out. Much like the DMT, it sticks a bit when lapping if you don’t keep enough water running. This is where the atoma is king. But This is half the price of an atoma and makes your stones just as flat. When you first get it it’s coarser then it’s rating like all plates, but a few mins either lapping a coarse stone, or sharpening a chisel or knife etc and it breaks in nicely. The 600 grit rating is accurate in my opinion. Overall I’m very pleased with this and will definitely be buying another when this one wears out.

Fast steel removal

This is my second 300 grit stone from Ultra Sharp. I have the old one for about 4 years and it is begining to wear out after years of heavy use. also, I have one from DMT but I think the Ultra Sharp is much superior to DMT in the coars grits.

Very good stone

The stone comes with instructions for breaking it in as well as which products work well on it for lubrication and maintenance. It does a very good job at flattening my whetstones. I originally got it to course file an old hand planer I got. But I think I need to start with a lower 100 grit. 300 is still taking too much time to get rid of any low spots. Unfortunately this company does not offer a 100 grit size.

Amazing stone

Came before it was supposed to, can sharpen any knife to a razor sharp edge I highly recommend these for both the quality and price

Cuts fast

Cuts fast even on hard steel. 1200 grit means shaving sharp in less than 10 minutes if you are practiced. If you don't sharpen that often may not be worth the expense over a decent combination stone.

Very effective honing tool

Easy to use and very effective.

These do the job and do it very well.

These ultra sharp sharpening plates are excellent quality and give a sharp finish to all the blades and chisels I sharpen on them. I bought three plates - 300, 600 and 1200. They arrived quickly, were packaged very well and had comprehensive instructions included. While I thought my Japanese water stones gave a sharp finish, those stones do develop curved surfaces that need regular flattening. Not so with the diamond sharpening plates that remain flat and sharpen better every time to my satisfaction.

Great Product

These diamond honing plates are absolutely fantastic! I have a 600, 1200, 2400 and 3000 from which I’m able to produce a super keen edge able to shave the hair off my arm. The quality of the diamond plates is excellent!I use my diamond plates dry as I’ve found zero benefit in using a honing fluid, which only creates extra hassle, mess and time. The method I use to sharpen my chisels and planer blades is to first grind a primary bevel two degrees less than the target bevel angle. I then hone the tool to produce a secondary bevel at the target bevel angle, using a honing guide on each diamond plate for approximately 20-30 strokes, or until a fine burr can be detected. The secondary bevel is initially only about 1mm (1/16”) thick, however after a half dozen honings, the secondary bevel will end up about 3mm (1/8”) thick, which is then when I regrind the primary bevel. The whole process of honing the secondary bevel only takes less than a couple of minutes and I’m back to work.
