This is NOT like the poncho I was issued. Maybe some of the other vets who commented are younger.I have attached a photo of this new one on top of my old darker one.My old one seemed to be thicker and had some rubbery component to it, so it was heavier and quieter. There was also some fabric visible in the edging to add strength. The old rivets and snaps seem thicker and stronger.I am NOT saying the old one was superior; maybe technology has changed and the new one is lighter and better. I don't know. I am not calling anyone a liar. Maybe they were issued this newer, lighter, crunchier poncho. I don't know.I am saying this new one seems cheaper, thinner, weaker - but if it performs just as well, then it is actually superior. I'll get back to you after 10-years of experience with it. :-)Update. The fabric tore the first time I tried to unsnap it! There is no way to repair this. My old poncho has been snapped & unsnapped hundreds of times over 40 years of going to the BWCA and did not rip like this. Go elsewhere.

This is not a "Military Spec" poncho

This is not an "military spec" poncho. It's a flimsy facsimile made with much weaker "rip stop" and other materials. It is almost certainly going to fall apart under real use. Also, as other have stated despite it having the same length and width dimensions as the real thing it has a small opening for the head. I am sure it fits great on the 5'3" Chinese guys that designed and made it but for average or large people its hard to get over the head.I think its marketing (i.e. as a " USGI Industries Military Spec Poncho") and price point are intentionally designed to mislead buyers into believing this is a real mil-spec poncho. I also think some of the positive reviews of this poncho are not legit. This is a $10 Chinese made poncho.

So small unusable

The head is so small you have to be a little child to use it. Ironically it seems durable and Light but if you can't even get it on it was no good. I'm not a manufacturer that just saying most of the high-end ones I use have a button so you can tighten it up

Definitely not what I expected and definitely don't like it

It came intact and everything. But it was SOOOO thin and the face part was very tiny. I will be returning

Exactly what you're looking for!

I bought one for my daughter's get home pack. She lives in a north woods environment about a half hour north of Duluth Minnesota. If by some chance she needs to walk home in a rain, ice or snow storm this military poncho plus the matching liner I bought will keep her warm and dry. The only modification she may need to make is a hole in the liner to poke her head through. The poncho and liner fit nicely inside a small included stuff sack. There are quite a few videos on YouTube that show the many uses of such a set. Watch them and you'll learn just how useful it is for survival in hostile environmentsThis is a very high quality kit item. Don't hesitate to buy one

Definitely NOT MILSPEC

I was excited to see modern colors in a military poncho and the OTP Multicam pattern is great. But with a lack of the originals available anywhere and an endless choice of knock-offs out there, it seems there's always something to be sacrificed and this one is no exception. While the dimensions and hardware (grommets, ties) seem to be true to the original GI poncho design, this one is made of very thin and light material. I have no doubt it will provide good protection from the rain, but its durability is questionable and will certainly not hold up long with even moderate field use. On the plus side, however, the accompanying poncho liner I purchased is of great quality and very true to the original design.

Read fine print

Not govt. Issue , not as thick , heavy or waterproof, misleading discription

Good quality, extremely versatile, and they fit in my Emergency Bag

I read some of the negative reviews and concede that these ponchos may be a little thinner and less rugged than genuine military issue, but they're also lighter, more compact and a fraction of the cost. Which for occasional backpacking, make them work better for me.I like that they are rip-stop and wider than most ponchos, (a full 62 inches), so in addition to keeping you dry while you're hiking, you can stretch a bit of para-cord between 2 trees and make a tent , or snap the two sides together to create a rainproof bivy over your sleeping bag. I bought 2 and they snap together beautifully to create a 2-person emergency bivy for my wife and I. My only disappointment is that there are no snaps at the bottom to close the bivy. If I can find 4 to 6 of the 2-sided snaps I'll add them myself. Or in an emergency, duct tape the bottoms together.Living in Colorado, I keep a small day-pack in my car at all times for those spontaneous hikes when we're driving through the mountains. 2 of these ponchos fit easily in my bag, along with packable down coats, thermolite underwear and a few other survival essentials. No one plans to get lost of have an emergency in the wilderness, but if you do, you'll be very glad you invested in these ponchos. If they ever offer them in Survival orange, I'll buy them again.
