Poor quality
The portable battery pack charges only with a wall outlet. The connection/port between the solar panels and the cord broke down after only a year of use. Customer service was not helpful.

Excellent portable solar power!
This is a review of the Sunjack 14W solar panels with the 8000mAh battery pack included. I actually bought more accessory items to use with this as part of a mini solar system, like the Sunjack 4W LED Camplight, the Sunjack AA/AAA battery charger, etc, but I'm mainly just reviewing the solar panels and battery pack here. The day after the panels arrived we were due for a couple of days of cloudy weather (naturally), so I thought this was a good "acid test" to put it through. The panels are the Monocrystalline type, which from what I understand can get energy even if it's cloudy outside. The first day of testing was what amazed me - it was grey, very cloudy and overcast (..you know the kind of day where there's just enough glare to let you know it's actually daytime..?). I put the panels out for 4 hours and it charged the battery pack 40%! Pretty impressive! I honestly wasn't expecting any charge at all.At this point I should mention something that potential buyers should be aware of: There are 2 USB charging ports on the panels, so in theory it is possible to charge 2 things simultaneously..HOWEVER, it seems that the wattage going into each item will be cut in half. So if the panel is capable of 14 Watts and you're trying to charge 2 items simultaneously, you will only have about 7 Watts going into each item, which means it will take a lot longer to fully charge each item. Just something to consider. So on the second day, I tried charging the battery pack and the AA/AAA charger (with batteries obviously) simultaneously. It was cloudy and overcast but with a bit more sun here and there. This time it only charged the battery pack 20% and the AA/AAA charger a tiny bit in 4 hours. Big difference. On another day it was sunny and clear and I managed to charge the battery pack completely, by itself. So the bottom line is that this really works best when you just charge the battery pack alone, and preferably on a really sunny day.Minor quibble: The area where the battery pack fits in is just a little too tight, so that the included USB cable is nudging the port upwards a bit when it's plugged in because there's not enough room for it to lay completely flat. (Hard to explain). But this is just a really minor quip, it's definitely not a deal-breaker. This can easily be solved by using a short USB cable with a smaller plug on the Standard USB end. The rest of the panel system is really well-designed.I'm very happy with this system, and I'm looking forward to future products from Sunjack!

Iphone 6 users need to do extra tinkering
Ok, just a little warning that this charger can get persnickety with an Iphone 6. I got several "This accessory may not be supported" messages while attempting to charge my Iphone 6 with the fully charged Sunjack battery. (My other phone, an Iphone 4s, charged right up, no problems.) I finally turned the Iphone 6 off, plugged it in to the battery, turned the phone back on and then pushed the black button on the SunJack battery (under the blue lights). It began charging up finally. To really track the charge on your Iphone 6, you can go to Settings> General> Usage> Battery Percentage: switch to ON and you can watch the charge fill up by number % on the top right of your home screen. The battery charges the phone pretty quickly once it gets going.

Buyer beware of loose usb cord connection problems
Overall product appears to be well built and decent quality for price. Purchased mine for future use for emergencies. Checked item initially to check how it functioned and charging ability in sun. Seemed to work just fine so packed it up.. Took it out of pack after a year to use it camping in the field and after just using it for two or 3 days the connections began to fail. The pack would only charge intermittently. Sometimes it would work fine and other times not at all after being in bright sunlight for hours. Appears that the connection going into the battery itself has a problem. The pins inside are loose or defective. So at this point not much more than a paperweight. I am very careful about using and packing all items so nothing was even mildly abused. Many good reviews on this item so I may have just got a lemon but I would just make sure all connections seem tight and secure or you probably will have trouble in the future. Return it before warranty is up.

Perfect answer to having power anywhere
My wife was impressed!! Very happy with this purchase and how easy it is to use. We used this on last camping trip for her cell phone and it works perfectly. This unit charges super fast and charging LEDs are accurate. Considering a second purchase we are so pleased, must have when the grid goes.
