1001: Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
What a brilliant book, you don't have to read it page to page just pick a decade and checkout how many albums you have and read the write-ups and details about the particular album. A must for music fans as well as a mine of information for quiz addicts. The book starts off in the 50's and works its way through to 2013 with a review of the David Bowie album The Next Day. The really big sellers have a page to themselves and the albums with slightly less sales are set out with a small picture of the album and share the page with two or three other albums of the same stature. The book covers all aspects of music from rat pack, blues, jazz, punk, rock etc. The book is very much U.S. influenced (the author is connected to the Rolling Stone publication) but U.K. greats are all there, Beatles, Bowie, Zeppelin. The main thing is if the album is good it will be in the list and the written text is quite constructive.

interesting
I got this book purely to find out what albums were in itI think Its pretty darn good Lots of variety and styles Though I think they could have added a few metal bands from the 2000's like Opeth and Dream theater these two bands really have something special about them.the books is really good and features allsorts of music in it to try, althoguh the 2000's section seems to trail off and only focus on radio type stuff which is fine cos its good stuff but the variety dies down at that point when there is plenty of awesome stuff in the 2000's. Obviously these books are subjective because music is subjective and are designed to get the reader thinking what they would put in a list like this.my liste would include Opeth, drea mtheater, flower kings. BB king , Canned heat , Free, Scroobius pip and danle sac. barenaked ladies, and a few other but NOT inplace of anything they put in the book I would just increase the number hahahaI think its very good though it won't appeal to any particular genre purists like Metal heads who only listen to metal for example they would say it sucks. This is for MUSIC lovers not a genre lover.Plenty of stuff too find and try though so that is why I gave it a 5 stars because it is about as well written and thought out as it possibly could be reallywith the 2000's taking a slight dip

1001/1001
I like lists. I like books of lists. I love this book of lists the most !Dating from 1955 (Frank Sinatra) to 2013 (David Bowie) the book covers all aspects of music/album releases.Using the book as a guide to explore new music to my ears, I am trawling my way through the book (accompanied by Spotify).Inevitably, there are albums I dont like and some I adore, but best of all its opening up new horizons.Relatively unbiased, and beautifully illustrated. A must for music fans.

Are you curious with music?
Ok, this is a heavy book phisically, but you'll find inside many hints about what to hear, with descriptions for every album. You should be curious with music, anyway, as this book describes topical albums from the 50s to today. Even those not so popular, but that worth a listen.
