A Biased View
I am really hesitant to review this game because it is really a classic and beyond the playing experience it has historical value. Produced by Origin, a pioneering Icon in the early gaming industry, with the "Father of the interactive movie" none other than Chris Roberts, this game is a treasure just to own, let alone play it. This game plays as if you're really in a movie and you are the star, you're the Wing Commander, you call the shots, you're the CAG (Commander Air Group), and you fly with your choices. this was a big step for Space Flyer Combat Simulation, going from a cartoonish animation to some powerful bluescreen graphic cut scenes and a choice determined outcome was a big leap for gaming. This was the first to make the jump in the Wing Commander series and set a standard for the industry. It is more than just a series in the gaming industry, it's a legend. You will need a lot of help to play this one but it's worth it for the SFCS enthusiast. DOSBox Plays this one and the setup is interesting but if you follow the instructions from Wing Commander CIC web site you should have no problems, works with either Dosbox .65 or .70 and windows xp. If you like this genre, this game is a must own. Graphics are a little hazy on the cut scenes but it plays well with a joy stick and will give you a nostalgic gaming experience.

A Classic
I remember getting this game a long time ago and ever since I played it it's been one of my favorites. The gameplay, cinematics, story, and presentation overall is superb. It's obvious the team put a lot of planning into the game. While there are many tough missions they very enjoyable even if you have to replay them a few times. The game's story is also great and you can get a real feeling that you're a part it. Because this game is old it might be a little tough to get running on some newer computers, but using programs such as DOSBox should do the trick just fine. Definitely worth playing if you get the opportunity.
