It is a 'dumb' device, it doesn't need to be a Motorcraft part.
Works great and has a install jib not supplied by the more expensive Motorcraft part. Look on YouTube for install help videos.

I have a 2008 Ford Explorer and I was having issues with my overhead light coming on while driving and not getting the "DOOR AJAR" light coming on. After some research I decided to purchase this item as well as the Doorman 924-867 ignition switch.The replacement took about an hour to replace both. Part of the replacement time is due to the instructions showing a clip that is to go on the back of the cylinder that was not included with the replacement parts. There was none on the original cylinder so after a few minutes of research I discovered this clip is not used on my vehicle. Other than that issue the instructions work well.There are several useful videos online that will show how easy it is to perform the repair.Since performing the repair I no longer have any issues with the light coming on. I also noticed the action of the ignition switch to be more consistent and the key is not as loose in the ignition.Compared to the cost of having the job performed be a dealer or an automotive shop the price and time spent this repair is a bargain.

Worked great, instructions were so-so, but if you’re like me you watch a lot of different “how to” videos. Keyed the new cylinder to my key and no issues, been about a week or so.I have a 2004 F150 Lariat, couldn’t just poke up through the hole to release the cylinder, had to pull off the top and bottom shrouds on the steering wheel and the kick panel below that, take out the screw that holds the computer chip reader and remove the reader to get at the release hole. Got the cylinder out and disassembled per instructions, hard to read the numbers on the old tumbler pieces due to wear. If it is your first time I suggest going slow and methodical, no TV and no Car Talk radio, you don’t want to screw this up. I probably spent 1.5 hours doing this, if there is a next time I would guess it will be 20 minutes or so.

Excellent product, poor instructions.
This product is 100% perfect and as is advertised. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the instructions it come with are low-quality printed thus making the diagrams difficult to see, AND most importantly, they don’t include how to code the lock cylinder tumbler from your key in the event that your code from the original part can not be obtained due to that part not being able to be disassembled. I ended up returning it and getting the same thing from my Ford dealer. The one from the dealer provided instructions on how to code the new cylinder using my key.
