Can you run the ethernet port to another switch or is it strictly for management purposes?
Anyone try connecting a 10g RJ45 transceiver in one of these sfp ports? I'd love to convert 10g fiber to 10g copper ethernet.
Can i use regular cat7 rj45 cables in the sfp+ to achieve 10gbe speeds, or do i need to use a different cable?
Can I use this as 1 fiber uplink to data center then the other 3 fiber ports to different buildings and the copper to connect to another switch?

Very nice little 10gbps switch.

Great performance with affordable price.

As fast as it can.

I bought this after seeing a tutorial to upgrade my NAS speed and it works. Although take note, you have to buy a few other peripherals to make it a true 10GB optical fibre connection.

Excellent way to get 10Gbps into your home network.

This is a powerful little switch and for the price it is an amazing value for 10 gig networking. I bought this for my home storage network, and while the learning curve is a little steep for the built-in OSes, it's very much worth it. It does get a little warm but if it's in a well ventilated area that's not really a huge concern, mine lives at the top of my rack in a cool room. As far as speeds go, everything is as advertised, though it was a little clunky to give it a static IP, after that was done it was smooth sailing. Currently using SwOS since I don't need the routing bits, but it's nice to know it has the capability if needed.Would recommend to anyone looking to get started in 10 gig networking!

I didn't really know what to expect, but honestly was not expecting something this good

I had never even heard of MikroTik prior to getting this switch. I just searched for the top rated 10gb capable switch with more than 2 ports and I am quite glad I did. I ordered the 5 port 10gb and 3 RJ45 transceivers so I could connect both my desktop and my Unraid server (both using ASUS XG-C100C 10G cards) to my Qnap TVS-951x NAS, as the NAS had only one 10gb port.I got everything all wired up with cat 7 and was quite happy with the performance right out of the gate, and I figured "it's just a switch, I have tons of those" so I didn't really think or bother to check if the switch even had a web interface. I was doing some diagnostics in which I needed to check something with the connection so I decided to check if there was a way into the switch, which was when I discovered what I now consider to be a hidden gem, the RouterOS software that the switch came with.As I mentioned, I thought it was "just a switch", turns out this thing has an extremely comprehensive and feature-packed operating system, with what seems like every functionality under the sun (from a quick glance over, at least) and tools for everything from email testing and verification to traffic generation. I am quite impressed with what you get for the price.Overall, the only gripe I have about the unit isn't really the fault of the unit, but with the RJ45 transceivers I am using, they were causing the whole setup to get alarmingly warm. Since the switch is a fanless design, that might end up becoming an issue for you. Luckily, it is extremely well ventilated, so as long as whever you are using it has some sort of airflow, it should be fine. Of course, if you are using different transceivers, it should not even be an issue for you. I pointed a small fan at them and everything is perfectly cool now, which I should have done long ago anyways as it is also helping cool the rest of the equipment near it.That said, so far it has been great, and I definitely recommend it.

Diffcult Setup but Great in the End

I bought the mikrotik sfp switch because it was near the bottom of the price bracket (though some were a few dollars cheaper) and youtube people seemed to like it. It has two operating systems and in my opinion ships with the wrong one (RouterOS) as default. To change it to switch only mode (SwOS) you have to connect. The software on mikrotiks website did work on Linux with wine without any hassle, but it didn't help that the font used for the default password didn't distinguish "0" and "O" very well and was magnifying glass small... Once in, it was not intuitive or well spelled out in the manual how to change to SwOS. RouterOS is a mess of menus and settings and things you don't want if you just wanted a nice managed sfp switch. But once you stumble into changing the IP, default password, and booting SwOS, its a great great unit with more than enough features for me. One of those features being a very easy to find way to get it to boot RouterOS which begs the question why not ship the simpler SwOS as default and let people enable the added complexity only if they want it instead of the other way around?A word about heat. Its fine. The people complaining about the heat aren't noticing the heat from the switch but the heat from the SFP to RJ45 modules. I'm using all direct attach copper SFP cables and its maintained no higher than 35C.Overall my only complaint is the fact it ships with RouterOS by default and getting to SwOS is no small task unless you really read the online only manual thoroughly. But its a well made unit, well received by people I would call experts, and serves its purpose now so I would buy it again and recommend.

Great Value!

The MikroTik 5-Port Desktop Switch is a compact yet highly effective addition to any network setup, especially when integrated into a Ubiquiti network environment. Despite its small size, this switch offers reliable performance with five Gigabit Ethernet ports, ensuring fast and efficient data transfer for connected devices. Its straightforward design makes it easy to deploy in various settings, from home offices to small businesses. The switch operates quietly and delivers stable connectivity, complementing Ubiquiti's robust network equipment seamlessly. While it lacks advanced features like VLAN support or PoE, it serves its purpose well by providing reliable network expansion with minimal fuss. For users already invested in a Ubiquiti ecosystem, the MikroTik switch is a practical and cost-effective choice for expanding network ports.
